Cada modelo dentro de la línea Perfect Grade trae alguna innovación que poco a poco, se estandariza o aparece en otras líneas.

Cuando el Exia fue inicialmente anunciado, mucha gente temía que el icónico GN Drive no fuese recreado de forma adecuada pero BANDAI no dejó a nadie descontento.

El GN Drive se trata de una de las principales características de esta maqueta, siendo lo primero que nuestros ojos se centran puesto que ocupa gran parte del pecho e incluso aparece por la espalda. El plástico de esta maqueta a primera toma parece incluso más pesado de lo normal, puesto que gran parte del peso de la maqueta se concentra en su icónico pecho y BANDAI no quería sacrificar posabilidad, especialmente en un suit que tradicionalmente ha sido ágil y elegante. Aún así, esto no implica pérdida de detalle puesto que la separación entre piezas y colores está al nivel de cualquier otro Perfect Grade. Los hombros, por ejemplo, están divididos de forma limpia, aportando sombreado natural mientras que las piezas mantienen la figura esbelta del Exia a la par que aportan una base firme y sólida para el pesado GN Drive y todo el armamento que incluye, puesto que la estética de suit de combate en entornos cerrados ha sido recreada gracias a la inclusión de tres tipos de hojas GN.

Además, este modelo fue el primero en tener un Lighting Mode, hecho que indica la capacidad de utilizar los LED de BANDAI (no incluídos en este modelo) para aportar iluminación a la maqueta y recrear efectos de la serie.
