There are plenty of reasons for us to need to glue something in a model kit and the market is large enough to get confused but we must ensure that we pick the correct product if we want to ensure a good result.

Plastic cements will allow us to join two different pieces together and weld them as one so long as they're an stirene-based plastic, such as the polystirene found in BANDAI's model kits. Their method of action is different from regular glues, for this type of cement melts both parts together. The biggest players in this market are Mr. Hobby and Tamiya, with each having a plastic cement line. The most commonly used products are the Mr. Cement SP and the Tamiya Extra Thin Cement respectively.

On the other side, cyanoacrylate glues are the most commonly used and you may have experience with them in other areas. Their mechanism is simple, the bonding agent hardens upon contact with oxigen and will keep both bits together, this reaction can also be drastically increased in speed by using catalysts such as MiG Magic Dust. This union is not unbreakable and can be removed with products such as MIG Debonder. We'll use CA glue when working with two different materials, for example, resin and plastic.
