This is a special HG model kit that has been launched due to the 40th Gundam Anniversary. Therefore the model name is G40 and it is a collaboration between deisgner Ken Okuyama and Director Kou Matsuo.
This model kit is a very special version as you have noticed, the design of the mobile suit itself is completly different, having more soft lines, mor details over the body.
Also the concept of articulations, poses it has been drastically changed, thanks to the new joint systems design, articulations are much more similar to human so poses can be more "natural". In conclusion this HG kit is far different from the other HG Model Kits RX-78-2.
