The first Perfect Grade Gundam model kit
When BANDAI originally launched the Perfect Grade series, it was quite the surprise both in terms of it's scope and the fact that the first model it featured was the EVA-01 but it took only a year for the RX-78-2 to appear on it, proving once more that BANDAI wasn't going anywhere.
This model kit is of 1/60 scale, one of the biggest BANDAI offers and it really shows. It is clear lots of care and attention went into it since every millimeter is covered in details. The inner frame is covered in so many details that, twenty five years later, few model kits can match. No matter the spot we check, we'll find mechanical details such as working hydraulic pistons on the wrists or the simulated springs on both legs. The detail was on such a scope that builders all over the world were leaving half of it uncovered so anyone could see the detail underneath and BANDAI released a clear parts set so they could finish covering the model kit and still let the details be seen.
The Core Fighter was also recreated and converted into a centerpiece of the model and so was it's weaponry. Despite the lack of it's iconic morning star, the RX-78-2 features the standard beam saber and shield, with the latter being of impressive size and a dream to work with for those modelers who enjoy weathering.
This kit is a must buy for any Gundam fan. Even those who do not usually enjoy the series or mecha kits should consider it because being able to enjoy such engineering that has stood the test of time after nearly two decades is not common.
